The 2 days Uganda chimpanzee trekking safari will take you to Kibale national park which is situated in southwestern region. Kibale national park is also known as the primate capital because it harbors about 13 primate species which include chimpanzees, black and white colobus monkeys, red tailed monkeys, vervet monkeys, L’hoest monkeys, blue monkeys, grey cheeked mangabey, olive baboons, pottos, patas monkeys among others, mammals like the elephants, buffaloes, bush pigs, bats, duikers, bird species such as the crowned eagle, green breasted pitta, black bee-eater among others. On your chimpanzee safari you will have a face to face encounter with the chimpanzees as you spend time with them in their natural habitat because Kibale national park is a home of about 1500 chimpanzees.

Detailed itinerary

Day 1 of the 2 days Uganda chimpanzee trekking safari

On the first day of your 2 days chimpanzee trekking safari, you will have breakfast at the lodge and our driver guide will pick you up to start the journey to Kibale national park in southwestern Uganda. It’s a 5 to 6 hour journey from Kampala passing through Mubende, Kyenjojo and Fort Portal. On the way you will have great views of the landscapes, plantations, homesteads, local people, and farmlands among others as you continue to the park. Upon arrival you will continue to the lodge where you will check in and have lunch.

After lunch you will go for an evening nature walk in Bigodi swamp walk, Bigodi swamp is a fascinating area which harbors various primate species like baboons, black and white colobus monkeys, vervet monkeys, red tailed monkeys, l’hoest monkeys, animals like bush pigs, otters, Sitatunga, bushbucks and various bird species like the great blue turaco, papyrus Gonolek, white winged warbler among others. The nature walk takes about 2 to 3 hours and it’s an interesting activity where you will be able to view various tree species, plants, animals, butterflies, bird species, primates among others. After the nature walk you will drive back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking and departure

On the second day of your 2 days chimpanzee trekking safari you will wake up, have breakfast, meet up with your driver guide to transfer to the starting point for a briefing about the rules, regulations and expectations of chimpanzee trekking. After the briefing you will be grouped into 6 people and allocated a chimpanzee group to trek.  You will start trekking in the jungle at around 8:00am with a park guide who is well conversant with the chimpanzees and the trails in the forest.

Chimpanzee trekking in Kibale national park takes about 30 minutes to 4 hours depending on the location of the chimpanzees because they like to move from one place to another in search of food. During trekking you will spot other primates like the black and white colobus monkeys, vervet monkeys, red tailed monkeys, various bird species and once found you will spend one hour with them in their natural habitat learning about their habits, lifestyles, behaviors, taking photos and recording the moments to show people back home. After the face to face encounter with the chimpanzees, you will trek back to the starting point where you will meet your driver guide and transfer to the lodge for lunch.

After lunch you will check out of the lodge and start the journey to Kampala where your driver guide will drop you off at Entebbe airport or at any place of convenience
