Congo destinations are some of the most interesting destinations to visit in Africa despite its political instability, as it’s a home of rare or unique attractions.
Congo is one of the largest countries in Africa, bordering with other countries like Uganda, Burundi, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, Angola, the Central African Republic and Zambia.
Virunga national park
Virunga National Park is one of the oldest national parks, located in the eastern part of Congo bordering Uganda and Rwanda. The national park is famously known for harboring the endangered mountain gorillas and three volcanoes: Mount Nyamurangira, Mount Mikeno and Mount Nyiragongo.
Virunga National Park is also a home of other wildlife species like chimpanzees, blue monkeys, mammals like elephants, buffaloes, warthogs, waterbucks, giant forest hogs and different bird species. Main activities in Virunga National Park that clients can engage in include gorilla trekking, nature walks, hiking Mount Nyiragongo, bird watching and chimpanzee trekking.
Kahuzi-Biega national park
Kahuzi-Biega National Park is one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites located in the southeastern part of Congo near Bukavu town. The park was named after two extinct volcanoes that dominate the park: Mount Kahuzi and Mount Biega, which is a home of the eastern lowland gorillas, also known as Grauer’s gorillas, chimpanzees, and animals like forest elephants, buffaloes, bongo antelopes, Alexanders bush squirrels, and clawed galagos, among others.
Maiko national park
Maiko National Park is another national park and one of the richest ecological habitats in Africa, located in the remote forests of the Congo in the eastern region.
Maiko National Park is one of the best places to spot unique or endemic animal species like the eastern lowland gorilla, Congo peafowl, aquatic genet, okapi, among others. The park is also a home of eastern chimpanzees, African forest elephants and different bird species.
Apart from the three mentioned national parks, Congo has other interesting national parks that clients can visit, including Garamba National Park, Salonga National Park, Upemba National Park, Mangroves National Park, Lomami National Park, and Kundelungu National Park, among others.
