3 Days Lake Mburo Birding safari is a fascinating adventure that will take you to Lake Mburo national park which is one of the best birding destinations in Uganda. Lake Mburo national park is a home of over 350 bird species and abundant animals that will be viewed during the nature walk, game drive and boat cruise on the safari. during the birding safari you will spot different bird species such as the elusive shoebill stork, red-faced barbet, red-headed lovebird, brown chested lapwing, bare-faced go-away bird, Ross’s turaco, greenwood hoopoe, long-tailed cisticola, grey crowned crane among others and animals like giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, impala, topi, oribi, warthogs, giant forest hogs among others.

Detailed itinerary
Day 1 of the 3 days Lake Mburo birding safari
- Arrival and transfer to Lake Mburo national park, depending on the time of arrival on the first day of the 3 days Lake Mburo birding safari, our driver guide will pick you up from Entebbe international airport, brief you about the safari and then start the journey to Lake Mburo national park in western Uganda. On the way you will have a stopover at the equator for lunch. After lunch you will take some photos, buy souvenirs and then continue the journey to the park with various stopovers to spot some bird species. Upon arrival you will check into the lodge, freshen up and prepare yourself for an evening game drive where you will have views of different bird species, animals, views of the sunset among others. After the game drive you will return back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Birding in Lake Mburo national park
- Nature walk, after breakfast on the second day of the 3 days Lake Mburo birding safari, you will meet up with your birding guide and transfer to the park for a nature walk which is done with the help of an armed park guide. During birding you will follow various trails in the park such as the swamp valleys of Miriti, Warukiri among others where you will be able to view different bird species like red shouldered cuckoo shrike, white winged tit, Nubian woodpecker, emerald spotted wood dove, red faced barbet, African fin foot, rufous bellied heron, white winged warbler, speckled mousebird, yellow fronted tinkerbird, ruppells long tailed starling, red chested cuckoo, Madagascar bee-eater, spot flanked barbet, red necked francolin, crested francolin, broad billed roller among others. After the nature walk you will go for a short game drive where you will view various animals grazing along the roadsides such as zebras, giraffes, Uganda kobs, buffaloes, waterbucks, impalas, warthogs, some bird species like the grey crowned crane among others. After the game drive you will drive to the lodge for lunch.
- Boat cruise, after lunch you will go for an amazing boat cruise on Lake Mburo. the boat ride on the lake is done in schedules and takes about 2 hours drive, during the boat cruise you will have great views of aquatic bird species such as the elusive shoebill stork, rufous bellied heron, African fish eagle, cormorants, pelicans, pied and malachite king fisher’s, white backed night heron, giant kingfisher, water thick knee among others. You will also be able to view large concentrations of hippos and Nile crocodiles in water, animals like buffaloes, warthogs, giraffes, antelopes among others drinking water on the shores, view beautiful landscapes, fishermen fishing, take spectacular photos among others. After the boat cruise you will meet up with your driver guide to drive around the park to the lodge where you will have dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Morning game drive and departure to Kampala
- Morning game drive, after breakfast on the last day of the 3 days Lake Mburo birding safari, you will check out of the lodge and your driver-guide will pick you up to go for morning game drive where you will be able to view some of the bird species and animals that you might have missed. During the morning game drive you will be able to spot predators like hyenas, leopards which will be going back to their hiding areas, other animals along the roadsides like zebras, impalas, warthogs, giraffes, oribi, topis, buffaloes among others. After the game drive you will drive out of the park and start the journey to Kampala with en-route lunch at the Equator. After lunch you will proceed the journey and arrive in Kampala early evening, upon arrival your driver guide will drop you off at any place of convenience or drop off at Entebbe international airport for your departure flight.
