This 4 Days gorilla trekking and Lake Mburo park safari is an incredible safari which takes you to the misty Bwindi impenetrable national park where you will have a face to face interaction with the endangered mountain gorillas in their natural environment. Bwindi impenetrable national park is located in the southwestern part of Uganda in Kanungu district and harbors about 19 habituated gorilla families which are found in four sectors namely Ruhija, Buhoma, Nkuringo and Rushaga sectors. On your four days gorilla trekking and Lake Mburo national park you will also get an opportunity of exploring Lake Mburo national park which is found in western region in Mbarara district. Lake Mburo national park is blessed with abundant wildlife species including the giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, hippos, hyenas, Sitatunga, impala, bushbuck, warthogs, giant forest hogs, topi, elands and various bird species.

Detailed itinerary

Day 1 of the 4 Days gorilla trekking and Lake Mburo park safari

Transfer to Bwindi forest, on the first day of your 4 days gorilla trekking and Lake Mburo national park, you will be welcomed by our driver guide at Entebbe international airport who will also brief you about your safari. After a short briefing you will start your journey to Bwindi impenetrable national park where you will pass via Masaka with a stopover at Igongo culture Centre in Mbarara for lunch.

After lunch you will continue the journey via Ntungamo, Kabale and then Bwindi impenetrable national park. The journey to Bwindi impenetrable national park is long and takes about 8 to 9 hours’ drive but it’s worth it in that you will have great views of the landscapes, beautiful scenery, homesteads, Kigezi hills, local people, road side markets among others. Upon arrival in Bwindi impenetrable national park you will drive to the lodge where you will check in, have dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking

On the second day of your 4 days gorilla trekking and Lake Mburo national park you will wake up, have breakfast, check out of the lodge and with your packed lunch meet up with your driver guide to transfer to the park headquarters for a gorilla trekking briefing. The briefing will be about the rules, regulations and expectations during trekking. After the briefing you will be grouped into 8 people and allocated a gorilla family to trek. During grouping of the individuals they consider various factors such as age, personal preferences, physical fitness among others therefore in case you are not physically fit you are advised to communicate with your guide so that they allocate you a gorilla family that is near to trek.

Gorilla trekking in Bwindi impenetrable national park is done with a park guide who is well conversant with the trails in the forest and it takes about 30 minutes to 7 hours depending on the location of the mountain gorillas because they like to move from one place to another in search of food. During trekking you will have views of the bird species, animals, plants, primates like the l’hoest monkeys among others and once the gorillas are found, you will be allowed to spend one hour with the gorillas in their natural habitat learning about their habits, behaviors, taking photos and recording videos.

After the one hour interaction with the gorillas you will trek back to the park headquarters where you will meet up with your driver guide and transfer to Lake Bunyonyi in Kabale. Lake Bunyonyi is the deepest lake in Uganda and second deepest in Africa. The lake has 29 islands and offers beautiful views of the scenery, landscape among others. On arrival you will engage in canoeing on the lake where you will be able to explore some of the islands, meet local people on the islands, have views of the bird species, some animals, farmlands among others.

After the boat cruise you will drive to the lodge, check in have an evening relaxation where you take beautiful photos of the sunset, the lake, view various bird species and after you will have dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Transfer to Lake Mburo national park

You will wake up, have breakfast on the third day of your 4 days gorilla trekking and Lake Mburo national park and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to Lake Mburo national park which is found in Mbarara district. The journey to the park takes about 5 hours’ drive and upon arrival you will check into the lodge and have lunch.

After lunch you will meet up with your driver guide and go for an afternoon boat cruise on Lake Mburo. the boat cruise starts at around 2:00pm and it gives you an opportunity to view wildlife species in the park including plant species, animals like hippos and crocodiles which will be in water, and other animals like the buffaloes, antelopes on the water banks, bird species like the African fish eagle, blue breasted kingfisher, southern ground hornbill, papyrus Gonolek, blue headed coucal among others. After the boat cruise you will drive to the lodge for an evening relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Game drive and departure 

On the last day of your 4 days gorilla trekking and Lake Mburo national park, you will wake up early have breakfast, check out of the lodge and meet up with your driver guide for the morning game drive. The game drive is one of the major activities in the park which offer you with great scenic views of animals like the zebras, giraffes, bushbucks, warthogs, impala, topi, eland, hyenas, giant forest hogs among others. After the game drive you will drive out of the park and start your journey to Kampala. On your way you will have a stopover at the equator for lunch and also get an opportunity of taking photos and buying souvenirs or art pieces from the craft shops.

After lunch you will continue the journey to Kampala where you will reach early evening and your driver guide will either drop you at Entebbe airport in case you have a flight to catch or at any place of convenience.
