Detailed itinerary
Day 1: Transfer from Kigali International Airport
Depending on the time of arrival at Kigali International Airport, our company driver will pick you up give you a short briefing about your 4 days Rwanda gorilla trekking and Dian Fossey hike where after you will transfer to Kigali the cleanest city in Africa for a city tour. On your city tour you will be able to visit Kigali genocide memorial site where you will learn more about the blood shading of the 1994 Rwanda genocide. You will also visit the art and craft markets where they make paintings, sculptures, visit Kimironko local market which is filled with local people selling different items such as souvenirs, market vendors selling fruits, vegetables, handmade crafts like mats, baskets among others and then go for buffet in one of the hotels in Kigali.
After lunch you will transfer to Volcanoes national park where you will have great scenic views of the villages, trading centers, hills in Rwanda among others. The journey to the park takes about 2 hour drive and on arrival you will check in at your lodge have dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking
On your second day you will wake up have an early breakfast at the lodge and with your packed lunch and drinking water you will meet up with your driver guide who will take you to Kinigi park headquarters for a briefing about the expectations, rules and regulations of gorilla trekking. After the briefing you will be grouped into 8 people, allocated a gorilla family to trek and a park guide who will be sharing information during trekking. You will later start trekking in the jungle like at around 8:00am and trekking takes about 2 to 6 hours depending on the location of the gorilla.
Once the gorilla family has been found you will spend one hour with the gorillas in their natural habitat where you will get an opportunity to learn more about their behaviors, habits, watching them as they feed, breastfeed, taking photos with flash less camera and recording the moments which gives you unforgettable experiences on your safari.
After gorilla trekking you will head back to the lodge for relation or opt for an evening nature walk to the twin lakes namely Lake Burera and Lake Ruhondo where you will have great views of the landscapes, wetland, hills, different bird species and then head back to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Dian Fossey hike
On your third day you will wake up have breakfast and then proceed to the headquarters for a briefing. After the briefing you will start an adventurous hike to Dian Fossey tombs with a park guide who will be sharing information about her foundation and work with the mountain gorillas. You will visit her former Karisoke research Centre, and see where she was buried close to her favorite gorilla Digit.
After the hike you will slope down meet your driver guide and then return back to the lodge for lunch. After lunch you will go for a cultural tour where you will visit Ibyi’wacu culture village. During the cultural tour you will taste the Kinyarwanda local food, locally brewed beer, participate in their traditional performances for example Kinyarwanda dance, storytelling, singing among others. After the cultural tour you will transfer to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Transfer to Kigali
You will wake up have a relaxed breakfast check out of the lodge and transfer to Kigali airport for your next flight or drop off at any place of convenience.
