Mbarara District

Mbarara District is amously knows as the land of milk and honey, by the local people and several international authors, and it is one of the unknown tourism destinations in Uganda, but it must be one of the places you visit for your next safari to Uganda. Mbarara district is one of the administrative centers in the south western region of Uganda. Mbarara borders ibanda district and kiruhura district to the north, Isingiro district in the east, ntungamo district to the south, and sheema district to the west. It is just like 270 kilometers from Kampala capital city to Mbarara town center, by road towards the south west of Uganda. Mbarara town is a beautiful place with a steady development strategy and a moderate population for a city in the countryside; it has about 472,629 people with both make and females counted.  There is a gradual decline in the population growth rate of Mbarara city, which calls for major factors like migrations to other cities. The weather of the Mbarara is favorable for all the economic activities all through the year. The undulating hills of Mbarara play part in influencing the rainfalls that the district receives, Mbarara district receives an average rain fall of about 1200mm in the two wet seasons of the year; during March to May and September to November. Despite this, mabara district is not all wet, for there is a dry season that happens every after a rainy season. The weather of the Mbarara is much influenced by the mixed topography of fairly rolling hills, Sharp Mountain, shallow valleys, lakes, and streams among others. The soil of Mbarara district is favorable for the growth of vegetables, plantain, and millet among others.

Economics of Mbarara 

Just like the other Ugandan districts, agriculture is the backbone to all developments in the major cities. And for Mbarara district too, agriculture is the mainstay for the growing economy in the area, and agriculture is also the livelihood supporter of many homesteads in Mbarara . The kind of agriculture in Mbarara district is mixed farming, plantation agriculture, and market gardening among others. The farmers in Mbarara rare live stock plus crop growing on a subsistence level. However, there are other commercial farms and plantations such as GBK and igara tea estate located within Mbarara. The famers in Mbarara district grow crops like matooke, sweet bananas, beans, sweet potatoes, Irish potatoes, millet, cabbage, tomatoes, onions, pineapple, avocado, passion fruit, papaya, beet root, mangoes, and oranges among others. The livestock in mbarara district is mainly the long horned historical ankole cattle, goats, sheep, pigs, rabbits, chicken, turkeys and other birds and animals.

Mbarara district is rated among the top 20 districts in Uganda in terms with the most health care improvement strategy. Almost in all the villages and towns in Mbarara district, there is a good health facility with all the equipment to make the services smooth for the citizens.  Mbarara town is the best stop over if at all you are looking or emergency health care in the south western part of Uganda. The travellers to the western tourism circuit of Uganda love to stop in Mbarara town to enjoy the market visits, the crafts shops, and also learn a lot about the ankole kingdom, plus have some lunch in the nice continental restaurants in Mbarara, such as igongo cultural center among others.  From Kampala, Mbarara is about 3hrs drive away, via masaka. Mbarara town has a number of other access routes connecting to Lake Mburo, kabale and kasese. And for all the routes you choose to take from Mbarara town, the road network is well constructed and established to reach all the road safety standards.

Mbara district is reached by either public or private means; the private means is the most interesting means to reach Mbarara town. There are buses, taxis and special hire that make trips to and from Mbarara. The global bus company is the most famous for the trips to Mbarara town, however others like jaguar executive goes through Mbarara town towards its journey to Rwanda. The other bus companies that operate transportation of passengers and their goods include, indignity, honest bus, swift safaris, horizon coaches, GASO Bus Company, among others. For all the bus you choose to reach Mbarara, the average fares range between UGX10000 to UGX20000 per trip per person.

Mbarara district is the door to the wildlife of the western tourism circuit, and the town is most enjoyable for the people who love nature appearances like land scape, vegetation cover among others. There is slot of things for you to enjoy in Mbarara district ranging from the natural attractions to culture and topography of the area. The most tours to Mbarara, target vistas to Lake Mburo national park where you get to see the zebras, impalas, birds, giraffes among others. You can also enjoy canoeing on Lake Mburo, and on river ruizi, cycling in the town and horseback riding in the countryside among others.
