Kibale forest national park is a unique protected area that is located in western Uganda and is also known as the primate capital because it harbors about 13 primate species which include the chimpanzees, red tailed monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys, l’hoest monkeys, baboons among others. Kibale forest national park offers two sessions of chimpanzee trekking that is the morning and the afternoon session though chimpanzee trekking is best done in the morning because you will be able to see chimpanzees de-nesting, breastfeeding, feeding among others.

Detailed itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Kibale forest national park
Depending the time of arrival the company guide will pick you up from the airport and in case you had a morning flight, your driver guide will brief you about your 3 days chimpanzee trekking safari in Kibale national park and then start you journey. You will pass via Mityana-Mubende road to Fort Portal where you will have a stopover for lunch. After lunch you will proceed with the journey to Kibale national park with beautiful views of the traditional homes, landscapes, farmlands, tea plantations in fort portal among others. You will reach late evening and upon arrivals you will check in into the lodge have dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking and Bigodi wetland visit
on your second day, you will wake up early have breakfast and then meet up with your driver guide to transfer to Kanyachu Visitors Centre for a briefing about the expectations during trekking and the rules and regulations. After the briefing you will be grouped into 6 people, allocated a chimpanzee group to trek and then start trekking in the jungle with a park guide who will be sharing information about the chimpanzees. Chimpanzee trekking in Kibale forest national park takes about 30 minutes to 4 hours depending on their location and once the chimpanzees are located, you will spend one hour in the presence learning more about their life style, behaviors, watching them feed, playing up in the trees as you record videos and take plenty of pictures with a flash less camera. After the one hour with the chimpanzees, you will trek back to Kanyachu Visitors Centre meet up with your driver guide and drive back to the lodge for lunch.
After lunch you will go for a nature walk in Bigodi community wetland where you will have spectacular views of different bird species like the great blue turaco, papyrus gonolek, primates like the black and white colobus monkey, blue monkeys, red tailed monkey, plant species, butterflies and also have and interaction with the local people. After Bigodi wetland walk you will meet up with your driver guide and head back to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Transfer to Kampala
You will wake up have a relaxed breakfast, check out of the lodge and meet up with your driver guide to start your journey to Kampala. On your way you will have a stopover for lunch and then proceed to Kampala where you will be dropped at the airport or at the lodge depending on your safari schedule.
