Our 10 days Uganda primates and wildlife safari is an amazing adventure that will take you to Murchison falls national park which is the largest and most visited national park in Uganda harboring wildlife species such as the elephants, buffaloes, lions, leopards, giraffes, Uganda kobs, bushbucks, warthogs, Jackson’s hartebeest among others. You will also visit Kibale national park where you will participate in chimpanzee trekking, Queen Elizabeth national park which offers game drive/lion tracking experience and boat cruise on Kazinga channel. From Queen Elizabeth national park you will continue to Bwindi impenetrable national park in southwestern Uganda where you will get an opportunity of visiting and spending time with the endangered mountain gorillas in their natural environment. The safari will also take you to Lake Bunyonyi the deepest lake in Uganda and second deepest in Africa where you will participate in canoeing and then connect to Lake Mburo national park which offer game drive and boat cruise.

Detailed itinerary

Day 1 of the 10 days Uganda primates and wildlife safari

Transfer to Murchison falls national park,  depending on your arrival time at Entebbe airport on day 1 of the 10 days Uganda primates and wildlife safari, you will be welcomed by our driver guide who will give you a briefing about your safari and then start the journey to Murchison falls national park. On your way you will have a stopover at Ziwa rhino sanctuary where you will track the endangered rhinos and after the incredible rhino tracking you will proceed to Masindi town for lunch. After lunch you will continue with the journey to Murchison falls national park and upon arrival you will drive to the lodge check in have dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Game drive and boat cruise

Game drive, on day 2 of the 10 days Uganda primates and wildlife safari you will have an early breakfast and meet up with your driver guide to go for a morning game drive in the park which starts at around 7:00am. The game drive takes about 4 to 5 hours following various tracks such as Buligi game track, Victoria track, Albert track which offer great views of wildlife species such as elephants, lions, giraffes, leopards, buffaloes bushbucks, warthogs, Jackson’s hartebeest, bird species among others. After the game drive you will drive back to the lodge for lunch.

Boat cruise, after lunch you will drive to Paraa landing site for an interesting boat cruise on River Nile to the bottom of the falls which starts at around 2:00pm and takes about 2 hours ride. during the boat cruise you will have great views of the waterfall and cruise meters away from hippos and Nile crocodiles in water, view elephants, buffaloes warthogs, antelopes drinking water on the water banks and various water birds such as King fisher’s, Bee-eaters, fish eagles, Herons, cormorants among others. The boat will continue to the bottom of the falls where you will either cruise back to the landing site or opt for an adventurous top of the falls hike which takes about 45 minutes to reach on top. Hiking to the top of the falls offers spectacular views of the landscape, River Nile, bird species, listen to the roars of the water as you enjoy water splashes but the hike is great for visitors who are physically fit due to the fact that it’s steep. After hiking to the top you will find your driver guide waiting for you to transfer to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Transfer to Kibale national park

After an early breakfast on day 3 of the 10 days Uganda primates and wildlife safari you will check out of the lodge and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to Kibale national park. It’s a whole day journey but filled with spectacular views of the local people, farmlands, traditional homesteads, Rwenzori Mountains, tea plantations among others. You will have en-route lunch on the way and stopovers to take photos and stretch your legs. Upon arrival you will continue to the lodge, check in, have dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Chimpanzee trekking in Kibale national park

Chimpanzee trekking, after an early breakfast on day 4 of the 10 days Uganda primates and wildlife safari you will meet up with your driver guide to transfer to Kanyachu Visitors Centre for a briefing about the rules, regulations and expectations of chimpanzee trekking. After the briefing you will be allocated a chimpanzee family to trek and a park guide who is well conversant with trails in the forest. Chimpanzee trekking in Kibale forest national park takes about 30 minutes to 4 hours depending on their location because they like to move from one place to another in search of food and once the chimpanzees have been located, you will spend one hour with them in their natural habitat which gives you an opportunity to learn more about their life style, behaviors, watch them feed, enjoy the juveniles playing up in the trees, take photos and record videos with a flash less camera. After the one hour encounter with the chimpanzees you will trek back to the park headquarters, meet up with your driver guide to transfer to the lodge for lunch.

After lunch you will check out of the lodge, meet up with your driver guide to transfer to Queen Elizabeth national park. You will have great views of the Rwenzori Mountains, Lake George, tea plantations among others and upon arrival you will have an evening game drive in the park where you will view animals like the elephants, buffalos, Uganda kobs, waterbucks, bushbucks, warthogs among others. After the game drive you will drive to the lodge check in, have dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Game drive/ lion tracking and boat cruise

Game drive/lion tracking, you will have early breakfast on day 5 of the 10 days Uganda primates and wildlife safari and meet up with your driver guide to go for a morning game drive or lion tracking experience which is commonly done in Kasenyi plains. During the game drive you will have views of animals such as the elephants, buffaloes, lions, leopards, Uganda kobs. Bushbucks, waterbucks, warthogs, bird species among others. After the game drive you will drive to Lake Katwe a crater lake where you will view and interact with the local people who will be extracting rock salt from the lake. During the Crater Lake tour you will be able to learn how salt is extracted from the lake and sold to traders as a way of earning a living. From Lake Katwe you will drive to the lodge for lunch.

Boat cruise, after lunch you will go for an amazing and adventurous boat cruise activity on Kazinga channel a water body that connects Lake George and Lake Edward. The boat cruise starts at 2:00pm at the landing site near the luxury lodge Mweya safari lodge and takes about 2 hours. During the boat cruise you will have an opportunity of viewing animals such as elephants, buffaloes, waterbucks, warthogs among others along the shores of the lake, large concentrations of hippos and Nile crocodiles in water, various water birds such as martial eagle, papyrus gonolek, pelicans, African skimmers, cormorants, African spoonbills, fish eagles, king fisher’s among others and also view fishermen organizing their fishing nets along the water banks. After your boat ride you will drive back to the lodge for an evening relaxation dinner and overnight.

Uganda 2 Day Safaris

Day 6: Transfer to Bwindi impenetrable national park

On day 6 of the 10 days Uganda primates and wildlife safari you will have breakfast, check out of the lodge and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to Bwindi impenetrable national park. On your way you will pass via Ishasha sector in the southern part of Queen Elizabeth national park for a game drive. During the game drive you will view the tree climbing lions which will be lying up in the acacia, fig tree branches and other animals like buffaloes, elephants, topi, warthogs, Uganda kobs, hippos, waterbucks among others and after the game drive you will go for lunch. After lunch you will proceed with the journey to Bwindi impenetrable national park which takes about 3 to 4 hours’ drive and upon arrival you will check in at the lodge have dinner and overnight.

 Day 7: Gorilla trekking in Bwindi impenetrable national park

Gorilla trekking, you will have an early breakfast on day 7 of the 10 days Uganda primates and wildlife  safari, carry packed lunch and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to the park headquarters for the briefing about the rules, regulations and expectations of gorilla trekking. After the briefing you will be grouped into 8 people, allocated a gorilla family to trek and a park guide who is well conversant with the trails in the jungle. Grouping of individuals is done according to personal interests, age, physical fitness among others therefore in case you are not physically fit you are advised to communicate to your driver guide that they allocate you a gorilla group that is easy to trek.

Gorilla trekking in the park starts at around 8:00am and takes 30 minutes to 8 hours depending on their location. during trekking you will have great views of the birds, primates like monkeys, baboons, plant and tree species among others and once the gorillas are found you will be allowed to spend one hour with them in their natural habit and during the one hour you will be able to learn more about their lifestyle, behaviors, take photos with flash less camera and record videos. After a breathtaking encounter with the gorillas, you will trek back to the park headquarters where you will be awarded a certificate for participating in gorilla trekking, meet up with your guide and transfer back to the lodge for an evening relaxation dinner and overnight.

Uganda 2 Day Safaris

Day 8: Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi

After breakfast on day 8 of the 10 days Uganda primates and wildlife safari you will check out of the lodge and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to Lake Bunyonyi which is located in Kabale. Lake Bunyonyi is the deepest lake in Uganda and second deepest in Africa after Lake Tanganyika. Upon arrival you will go for a boat cruise in a dugout canoe on the lake where you will explore some of the 29 islands, have spectacular views of the landscape, birds, local people, terraced farmlands among others. After the boat ride you will go to the lodge and have lunch.

Community tour, after lunch you will go for a community tour where you will visit the local people living around the lake and these include Bakiga and Batwa. During the community tour you will interact with the local people learn about their lifestyle, culture, view their traditional homesteads, visit markets and enjoy entertainments from the Batwa who will perform traditional dances, songs among others. After the community tour you will drive back to the lodge, have dinner and overnight.

Day 9: Transfer to Lake Mburo national park

After an early breakfast on day 9 of the 10 days Uganda primates and wildlife safari you will check out of the lodge and meet up with your guide to transfer to Lake Mburo national park. You will pass via Kabale town, Ntungamo town and upon arrival you will check into the lodge and have lunch.

Boat cruise, after lunch you will go for a boat cruise on Lake Mburo which gives you an opportunity to view animals like buffaloes, warthogs, antelopes drinking water along the shores of the lake, hippos and crocodiles in water and water birds such as cormorants, kingfishers, fish eagles among others. The boat ride takes about 2 hour and after you will have a short drive in the park where you will view animals like zebras, buffaloes, impalas, eland among others. After the game drive you will continue to the lodge, have dinner and overnight.

Day 10: Game drive and departure

On day 10 of the 10 days Uganda primates and wildlife safari you will have an early breakfast, check out of the lodge and meet up with your guide to go for a game drive in the park. During the game drive you will be able to view various wildlife species including zebras, warthogs, giant forest hogs, waterbucks, impala, giraffes among others along the road and after the game drive you will drive out of the park and start the journey to Kampala. You will have a stopover at the equator in Kayabwe where you will have en-route lunch, take photos, buy craft items and then proceed with the journey to Kampala. You will reach early evening and your driver guide will drop you off at any place of convenience or at the airport for your next flight.
