Detailed itinerary
Day 1 of the 6 days Rwanda wildlife and gorilla trekking safari
Arrival and transfer to Kigali, upon arrival at Kigali international airport on the first day of the 6 days Rwanda wildlife and gorilla trekking safari you will be welcomed by our driver guide who will brief you about your safari and then transfer to a hotel in Kigali where you will freshen up, have dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Transfer to Akagera national park
On the second day of the 6 days Rwanda wildlife and gorilla trekking safari you will have breakfast and your driver guide will pick you up to go for a city tour in Kigali. During the city tour you will visit Kigali genocide memorial centre where you will see graveyards of the people who were brutally killed during the 1994 Rwanda genocide, listen to audios and see photos of the victims. You will also visit Kimironko market where you will interact with the local vendors who will be selling crafts, food staffs among others. After the city tour you will have lunch in one of the restaurants in Kigali and then start the journey to Akagera national park. The journey takes about 2 to 3 hours drive and upon arrival you will go for an evening game drive in the park where you will view some of the animals like giraffes, warthogs, zebras, elephants, buffaloes, waterbucks, impala, elands among others. After the game drive you will drive to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Morning game drive and afternoon boat cruise
Game drive, on the third day of the 6 days Rwanda wildlife and gorilla trekking safari you will have early breakfast and meet up with your driver guide to go for a morning game drive so as to catch up with predators which will be going back to their hideout areas. During the game drive you will view predators like lions, leopards, hyenas, bush babies, other animals like elephants, impala, topi, zebras, buffaloes, giraffes, rhinos, oribi, bushbucks, primates like olive baboons, vervet monkeys, blue monkeys, bird species like open billed stork, giant kingfisher, Senegal lapwing, squacco heron, grey crowned cranes among others. After the game drive you will drive back to the lodge for lunch.
Boat cruise, after lunch you will drive to the landing site for an exciting and amazing boat cruise which is carried out on Lake Ihema, Rwanda’s second largest lake. The boat cruise is done in three schedules that is the morning schedule, the day schedule and the sunset schedule where each boat ride schedule takes about 2 to 3 hours. During the day schedule boat cruise you will have great views of various animals like buffaloes, elephants and antelopes which will be drinking water along the shores, aquatic animals like hippos and Nile crocodiles, aquatic bird species like the elusive shoebill stork, pied and malachite kingfisher, open bill storks, egrets, cormorants, fish eagles, plovers among others. After the boat cruise you will drive back to the lodge for an evening relaxation, dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Transfer to Volcanoes national park
After breakfast of the fourth day of the 6 days Rwanda gorilla and wildlife safari , you will check out of the lodge and meet up with your guide to transfer to Volcanoes national park which in north western part of Rwanda. On the way you will have en-route lunch and great views of the hills, beautiful landscape, terraced farmlands, homesteads among others. Upon arrival in the park you will drive to the lodge for an evening relaxation, dinner and overnight.
Day 5: Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes national park
Gorilla trekking, after an early breakfast on the fifth day of the 6 days Rwanda wildlife and gorilla trekking safari you will carry packed lunch and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to the park headquarters for a briefing about the rules and regulations of gorilla trekking. After the briefing you will be grouped into 8 people, allocated a gorilla family to trek and a park guide who is well conversant with trails in the jungle. Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes national park takes 30 minutes to 6 hours depending on where the gorillas are allocated because they like to move from one place to another in search of food. During trekking you will have spectacular views of other primates in the forest, bird species, plants among others and once the gorillas are found you will be able to spend one hour with them in their natural environment which gives you an opportunity to learn more about their lifestyle, habits, behaviors, watch females breastfeed their young ones, take photos and record videos. After the one hour with the gorillas you will trek back to the park headquarters where you will meet up with your guide to transfer back to the lodge for an evening relaxation, dinner and overnight.
Day 6: Golden monkey trekking and departure
Golden monkey trekking, on the last day of the 6 days Rwanda wildlife and gorilla trekking safari you will have an early breakfast and meet up with your guide to transfer to Kinigi park headquarters for a briefing about the rules and regulations of golden monkey trekking. After the briefing you will be allocated a golden monkey family to trek and a park guide who will be showing you golden monkey trails to follow. Golden monkey trekking in Volcanoes national park takes 30 minutes to 4 hours and during trekking you will follow clues of the leftover bamboo shoots and leaves. Once the golden monkeys are found you will be allowed to spend one hour with them in their natural habitat which gives you an opportunity to learn more about their lifestyle, watch them lump up in trees, feed on bamboo leaves, take photos and record videos. After the one hour encounter with the golden monkeys you will meet up with your driver guide and transfer to the lodge for lunch. After lunch you will check out of the lodge and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to Kigali international airport for your departure flight.
