Kazinga Channel in Queen Elizabeth National Park : When you hear of boat rides in Queen Elizabeth national park and wonder where the boat rides are done; well they are all done on the kazinga channel in Queen Elizabeth national park. The Kazinga channel is 32-km water channel that connects lakes George and Edward and it goes through queen Elizabeth national park.

kazinga channel is among the stand out features in Queen Elizabeth national park on top of the Kyambura gorge, crater lakes and of course the wildlife. Because it goes through the park the channel gives you a splendid view of the numerous animals and birds that live in the park.

To the east of the channel you find the tiny little Lake George which is 2.4 meters deep and 250 sq. km wide. The lake flows into the kazinga channel from the east as the lake itself gets water from the Rwenzori Mountains in the north.

The water into the kazinga channel flows downstream west to another tiny lake Edward with is about 2000 sq km wide. This lake is a one of the popular fresh water bodies and it is known to be a fish hub, with lots of fisher men fishing from it.

Kazinga channel is a water source for the animals that live in the park and on a normal day you will find birds like the shoe bill stork on the shores and the other animals. the channel is known to be home reptiles, hippos and Nile crocodiles. All these animals can be seen well on a boat cruise down the course of the Kazinga Channel.  The Boat Cruise is done every day between 11am and 1pm and between 2pm and 5pm local time. On this boat ride you will realize that the channel is divided into several sections.

These sections are the North Kazinga which has most of the Kasenyi plains; the plains offer breath taking viewpoints of wildlife and vegetation that lies within those zones with grassland thickets and acacia wood lands among other things. The eastern section also has a part of the plains and this section is in view of the kasese road. It also gives you spectacular views of the wildlife and the flora.

Because of the many birds that make their home along the water channel, the kazinga channel is a very good place for bird watching and bird spotting. If your boat cruise takes you down up to the lake Edward connections, you will be amazed at the communities that are along the shores engaging in the activity of fishing and selling of fish.

To get to the kazinga channel you basically need to be in Queen Elizabeth National Park. That’s the easiest way to make it to the channel.
