Buikwe District
Buikwe district is located in the central region of Uganda, and it is among the districts which make up the central Uganda region. The chief town if Buikwe district, s the attribute to the name of the whole district; it is called buikwe town, buikwe town is where the major business are located and also the whole district headquarters. Buikwe is bounded by Kayunga district to the north, Jinja district to the east, the republic of Tanzania to the extreme southern end, district to the south east and Mukono district borders buikwe to the west. Buikwe town is located in about 60 kilo meters, by road, east of Kampala the capital city of Uganda. From lugazi town, you only travel for about 14km, and find buikwe town headquarters, by road, south east wards; lugazi town is the largest town in buikwe. Buikwe district is estimated to be with a population counting to about 429600. Buikwe town is the home for one of the major football clubs in Uganda called the nalubale football club.
Buikwe district is famous because it is the area that gave us mabira forest. The fame of buikwe district is also attributed to the University military science and technology. Buikwe is one of the new districts in Uganda, and it was approved by the parliament of the government of Uganda in 2010. Buikwe was initially part of the vast Mukono district, buikwe later was curved out of Mukono, and it was named after the town where the district headquarters are located. Buikwe town, where the district headquarters is located, sits on an area of about 4974 square kilometers. Buikwe has over five sub-counties including Nyenga, Nanjja, Buikwe, Kawolo, Wakisi and Ngongwe sub-county. Buikwe also has town councils including lugazi, such as njeru and lugazi.
Education of Buikwe district
The education situation in Buikwe district is living with a literacy percentage of about 79%. Buikwe has about 130 nursery schools, 408 primary schools, and about 110 secondary schools among others. The presence of a strong education foundation makes Buikwe livable; almost every person can at least great in English and understand.
Economic activities in Buikwe district
The major source of income in Buikwe district is manufacturing, the manufacturing industries in Buikwe district are the source of the district’s jobs and employment opportunities. Buikwe is blessed with a number of factories and manufacturing industries such as the sugar corporation Uganda limited, Ugam Engineering Corporation limited, cable corporation limited, southern range Nyanza textiles, Uganda hortech limited, Uganda breweries limited, Uganda tea corporation, and other tea factories, among others. The factories and manufacturing industries in Buikwe they offer direct and indirect employment to the big population. Besides, the employment from the manufacturing industries in buikwe, the people also practice subsistence agriculture for food crops they eat and sell for money. Others also grow practice outgrowing of sugarcane for the sugar factory, tea for the tea processing factories among others.
Best time of the year to visit Buikwe district
The best time to visit Buikwe district is the warm time of the year, from the month of June to late September, this is based on the tourism score. The weather in Buikwe slightly varies throughout the year. Buikwe experiences an average weather of about 80 degrees Fahrenheit, high, and about 62 degrees Fahrenheit. The temperature in buikwe district is always cool and comfortable in the morning hours, however cold during the rainy season. As the day goes by, the temperature in buikwe get warmer, and gradually cool down in the evening.
The rain falls in Buikwe is common since is it is located just close to the Mabira forest and Lake Victoria. However, the wet days in buikwe vary significantly all through the year. The wet season in Buikwe is experienced in august to may, however, the wettest month is April, and least rain fall is received in July, since it is on the fringe of the dry season.
Attractions and tourist activities in Buikwe
Mabira forest is one of the most famous tourist attractions in buikwe. Mabira foret is also one of the last remaining natural forests in the pearl of Africa, and in the central African region. Mabira forest is a rain forest found in part of buikwe, located between the Lugazi municipality and Jinja district. Mabira forest has been a protected forest reserve from 1932. The reason for gazetting of mabira forest in non-other than the biodiversity, which comprises 315 bird species, 218 species of butterflies, 312 species of trees, and 40 species of mammals among others. The small mammals in the Mabira forest include the monkeys such as the red-tailed monkeys, the grey-cheeked mangabeys, vervet monkeys, bush babies among others. You can reach mabira forest in about 54 kilometers from Kampala, by road, using the Kampala – Jinja highway. Mabira forest offers you a chance to enjoy the forest walks, picnics, mountain biking in the forest, bird watching, camping, and sightseeing and photography among others.
Sezibwa Falls is another attraction in buikwe, located about 3 kilo meters off the Kampala Jinja high way at kayanja trading center in buikwe. The river at sezibwa flows from the wet lands between Lake Victoria and Lake Kyoga in kayunga district. Sezibwa falls is a scenic place and a lot of international and local tourists visit the place to relax, scenic viewing, photography, cultural tourism among others. Besides being a geographical attraction, sezibwa falls in Buikwe is a very important place for the Buganda kingdom.

Sezibwa falls area has a number of rock caves where the traditionalists and the visitors go to pray to the spirit of sezibwa. Sezibwa falls also features a planted bamboo forest where visitors stroll while enjoying the scenery and the cool environment of the area. There is a lot of fun at the falls, such as picnics grounds, you can also go and learn a lot about the Buganda spiritual beliefs among others.
