Crater Lakes in Uganda: Uganda has so many volcanic mountains which as a result of volcanic eruption, the magma cooled leading to a depression which with time water collected leading to an emergence of a basin lake known as a crater lake ,imagine that, the sense of seeing that lake is a dream come true, most of these crater lakes are located in the western part of Uganda, within queen Elizabeth national game park ,their beautiful view is a lot more than what words can explain but its beautiful. Lake katwe, known for salt extraction, located in the myela peninsula, southern western part of Uganda, on the volcanic mountain next ,its famous for its being salty due to the tributary streams that lead inwards but none that lead outwards, hence a lot of salt production taking place in the lake, the salt production process is something to witness, surely its something not to miss, getting to know how our endible salt comes about, there’s also a lot of activities that take place in the lake, like lake diving, nature walks around the lake, experiencing the site of viewing the animals like elephants. since most of the natives there are salt miners, then salt production is an important source of livelihood for them but also make beautiful handmade crafts to supplement their income since they don’t earn that much so you can take a look at the beautiful accessories they make and also have fun learning how to make such beautiful pieces of art.

The other great Crater is the stunning lake bunyonyi, the second deepest lake and deepest in Africa and Uganda respectively, with its end 900 metres deep, and housing 29 islands, found in-between kabale(1962m above sea level) and kisoro districts, in the southern western part of Uganda, about 25km long,7km wide, anytime you feel like visiting it, your most welcome since its open all year for visitors, to see the great home of the otters,Cray fish. great f itor camping incase you need sometime away from the noisy city life,away from the daily hustles and routines.the leg stretching bamboo walks will do you good too.
Lake nyinambuga has its picture literally in the 20000 Uganda shilling note, beautiful scenery with the cleanest water.lake diving is a must not miss when you are there,also fishing takes place there.
Found in in-between the mountain of the moon, Rwenzori and kibale national park is the outstanding Lake nkuruba,45 km from the cleanest district in Uganda, fortportal, a place where you can take on bicycle tours, nature walks around the nature reserves next to it leading to a sight of the primates, the unique red colobus,velvet and the black and white colobus monkeys giving you a feeling of being in the wild,a walk to the market is a great interaction site with the locals,plus the beautiful handmade crafts the women make add more spice to the cultural occasions that take place in the area.the cultural dances make you blend in more, enjoying every moment. watching the blue Turaco and the black and White casqued hornbill for the bird addicts.
kyaninga crater lake with the kyaninga lodge which is overwhelmingly located just above the crater,its very visible and its surely not to miss.walking out of the crater takes you to the native settlements giving a simple view of life in Uganda.the tour guides in the lodge are available to give you a stroll around.
