5 Day virunga gorilla trekking and Nyiragongo hike
The the 5 days virunga gorilla trekking and Nyiragongo hike Offer two experiences while on a congo safari, first it sees you at virunga national park for virunga gorilla trekking experience and later tranfering to nyiragongo area for nyiragongo hiking tour.
Day 1: Pick-up to Goma
You will be picked up by our company representative/driver guide to cross to Goma by 10:30 pm and check-in with Virunga tourism office by 11:30am, the office is located in Grande Barrier border post building. Receive your gorilla and hike permits which will be presented at the start of each hike. Thereafter, transfer together with the Virunga convoy, transfer to Kibumba Tented camp.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking
After your early breakfast at the Camp, meet your ranger guides for a transfer to Bukima, park headquarters where you will gather for briefing about the mountain gorillas and the park at large. Depart to enter the park to start the search of the mountain gorillas, this can take 2 hours to hike each way, depending on the location of the gorillas and the difficulty of the terrain. After spending time with the gorillas, descend and drive back, enjoy lunch and spend the rest of the day at leisure at the camp.
Day 3: Nyiragongo hike
After breakfast at Kibumba tented Camp, be transported to Kibati ranger port at 8:00 am which is the departure point for Nyiragingo volcano, receive briefing about the hike and if you wish hire a porter for yourself. The hike takes about 4-6 hours depending on your speed. Overnight on the summit with views of the boiling lava, as the experience is more effective in the night.
Day 4: Descend Nyiragongo and drive back to Kigali
After having a cup of tea, leave the crater rim and start descending the volcano to report at Kibati taking about 4 hours. Once at the bottom, be transported back to Goma and cross back to Kigali. Dinner and overnight stay at Paradise Malahide Hotel
Day 5: Drop of Kigali
After your breakfast, meet your driver to connect back to Kigali and depending on your flight schedule, you will either be dropped off at a location you advise in Kigali or at Kigali airport for your onward flight back home.
