7 Days Uganda Mountaineering and Wildlife Safari takes you to Uganda’s savannah national parks for wildlife viewing in Lake Mburo national park which smallest savannah national park with most of the antelope species and the only home of the Impalas in Uganda and Queen Elizabeth national park is Uganda’s second largest national park and a home to the tree climbing lions in Ishasha sector of the park. Bwindi Impenetrable national park and Mgahinga national park are primates national parks whereby Bwindi is the world’s home of the mountain gorillas and its recorded that Bwindi Forest has half of these endangered mountain gorillas while the rest are shared by Rwanda and Congo while Mgahinga national park is home of both gorillas and golden monkeys. It’s also the best destination for hiking on the Virunga mountains. Mount Sabinyo is the oldest volcano with a summit of 3,669 meters marking an intersection of Uganda, Rwanda and Democratic Republic of Congo borders, so while at the top; you get to be in all the 3 countries. Other activities that will be experienced include; Lion tracking, and birdwatching.

Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to Lake Mburo national park – boat trip

  • Transfer to Lake Mburo: Depending on your arrival at Entebbe airport/depending on your location in Kampala, meet our company representative who will also be your safari guide to transfer to Lake Mburo national park. It’s about 5 hours’ road drive via Masaka – Mbarara road. Depending on your departure time, you will either have en-route lunch or at the lodge. Upon reaching the park after lunch, connect for a boat trip on the lake Mburo. The lake is also good for sports fishing and bird watching. Return in the evening to prepare for dinner and overnight stay

Day 2: Walking safari/morning game drive and Transfer to Queen Elizabeth national park

  • Walking safari/morning game drive: Early morning after breakfast, head out for in the search for the early risers on a good day you may spot the lions and the leopards are actually rarely seen and it will be by luck to find them. Do not forget to carry your camera in order to keep all your memories forever intact and also to ensure not to miss out detail on your amazing game drive and find animals such as the Impalas, Zebras, Waterbucks, Oribi, buffaloes, Giraffes to mention a few. Alternatively, go for a walking safari where you view wildlife on foot.
  • Transfer to Queen Elizabeth: Continue on your safari to Queen Elizabeth national park, which is the home of the tree-climbing lions. It’s a 4-5 hours’ road drive through Ishaka district. Arrive in the evening and connect to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Morning game drive/Lion tracking and Boat cruise

  • Morning game drive/Lion tracking: Wake up early, have breakfast and connect for a morning game drive in Kasenya animals where you will find many of the park’s residents including the lions, elephants, buffaloes, waterbucks, and other antelopes species, return to the lodge for lunch. 
  • Boat cruise: Later afternoon, connect for a boat cruise on the Kazinga channel. It’s a 2 hours’ boat trip with sights of different bird species, hippos, Crocodiles, Elephants, and Buffaloes to mention a few. Return to you lodge for dinner and overnight at lodge as above

Day 4: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable national park

  • Transfer to Bwindi: After breakfast, transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable national park. It’s a 5 hours’ drive via Ishasha sector from Queen Elizabeth national park to Ruhija sector of Bwindi forest for an opportunity to spot the tree climbing lions. On arrival at the park, connect to your lodge, check-in for relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Gorilla trekking experience

  • Gorilla trekking experience: On this sixth day of your safari, you will have the same morning preparations at the lodge, have breakfast and transfer to the park headquarters with your trekking gears and packed lunch, meet with other trekkers for briefing about gorilla trekking. After you are allocated a group in groups of 8 people, head into the forest for your trek. Gorilla trekking takes 2 to 8 hours depending on the movement of the gorilla family being visited. These primates roam the park freely and there is no way of telling where they will be for a particular. On finding them, you will be allowed 1 hour to view and take photos of these gentle primates before you descend back to meet your driver/guide and transfer back to your lodge. After trekking, return to your lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight stay at lodge at

Day 6: Hike Mount Sabinyo – Mgahinga national park

  • Hike Mount Sabinyo – Mgahinga national park: Wake up early, have early breakfast and transfer to the Mgahinga national park head office and report for a briefing from the park officials about your hike. Thereafter set off with your guides to embark on the climb. Mount Sabinyo is surrounded by a lot of forests giving great views of different bird species known as the Albertine birds only found in this area such as the rare Rwenzori Turaco. During your hike, you may get an opportunity to spot the mountain gorillas and the golden monkeys if it’s your lucky day. Upon reaching the top, you will be rewarded crater lakes at the top and you will also be able to view all the 3 countries of Virunga Mountains including Uganda, Rwanda, and Congo. It takes 8 hours climbing and descending from Mount Sabinyo. Upon return, meet your guide waiting to return you to your lodge to retire from the tiring day. Dinner and overnight stay at lodge as above

Day 7: Transfer to Kampala/Entebbe

  • Transfer to Kampala/Entebbe: After having breakfast, check-out of the lodge to embark on your 8-9 hours’ journey back to Kampala. You will have several stopovers to refresh and have lunch in Mbarara town. Upon arrival in Kampala/Entebbe, your safari guide will drop you at allocation you advise or better still be dropped at Entebbe international airport of you have a flight.
