Safaris are refreshing and adventurous experiences that give one an opportunity to explore the wild and take part in numerous exciting activities. Almost 90% of safari activities are outdoors so most people prefer to have them during the dry seasons. But just because most safari activities are outdoors, it doesn’t mean you can’t have safaris during the wet season.

Safari activity

Depending on the safari activity you’re doing, rain may or may not affect your safari. Activities like primate trekking, hiking, water adventures may be affected a little bit but may not be halted completely. You usually get back to the activity immediately the rain stops. Itinerary

All safaris are based on pre-prepared itineraries. Your itinerary dictates what you do on particular days and times. So when it rains, you can use your itinerary to switch out favorable activities for the given weather.

Also if you are one who follows the weather forecast and are well conversant with your weather updates, you can tailor make your itinerary according to the forecast. You can schedule activities on the days that you are sure it wouldn’t rain according to the forecast.

That said African weather can be unpredictable at times, even when the forecast says it won’t rain, it may still rain, so put that into consideration.

Safari destination

Some safari destination, have provisions for rain shelters when it rains so even if it rains you will not stop the safari it will just be delayed for some mins or hours.  Safari destinations that don’t have this provision have other plans or strategies that they implement during the rain times.

So be assured that whether it rains or not your safari will go on.

Amount of rain

Unless it rains cats and dogs, the amount of rain you get on your safari day may be really ignorable and doesn’t affect anything. Usually it’s only slight drizzles and nothing heavy, so it cannot affect your activity and your safari at large.

Heavy pours on the other hand May, bring everything to a standstill. So it really depends on the amount of rain.

Time of rain pour

If the time the rain pours is during the night or when you’re not doing any activity, you will just stay indoors and that will be it. You won’t feel the effects of the rain and it will not change any of your plans or safari schedule.

However if the rain pours during the day and during a time of activity, you may have minor effects but still not big ones to halt your activity or entire safari.

Duration of rain pour

How long the rain pours is also another factor. During the heavy rain seasons it may rain day and night non-stop. This kind of pour will surely bring a stop to a lot of activities. However the time it rains for hours and just a small part of the day, you can always resume your activities after it stops to rain.

Generally on an African safari, you are assured to get some rain pour sometimes  especially in the rainy season but be of good cheer the rain will not stop your safari.
