Chimpanzee trekking in Uganda takes about 30 minutes to 4 hours depending on where the chimpanzees are located because they like to move from one place to another in search of food, during trekking you will be able to view other primate species like black and white colobus monkeys, red tailed monkeys, l’hoest monkeys, vervet monkeys, olive baboons, different bird species, plants among others. Chimpanzee trekking permits are legal documents that are issued by Uganda Wildlife Authority to visitors allowing them to visit habituated chimpanzee families in one of the chimpanzee destinations in Uganda. Chimpanzee trekking permits in Uganda vary depending on the location or destination you tend to visit for example chimpanzee trekking permits in Kibale national park cost USD 200 per person for foreign non residents, USD 150 per person for foreign residents and UGX 150,000 for East African citizens, in Kyambura gorge chimpanzee trekking permits cost USD 50 for foreign non residents and UGX 30,000 for East African citizens, in Toro Semuliki wildlife reserve chimpanzee trekking permits cost USD 30 for foreign non residents, UGX 20,000 for East African citizens and in Budongo forest chimpanzee trekking permits cost USD 90 for foreign non residents.

How to book chimpanzee trekking permits in Uganda 2021-2022

During the dry season there is less rainfall in the gorilla destinations which implies that vegetation will be thin hence allowing you to clearly view chimpanzees and other wildlife species during trekking, access roads and chimpanzee trekking trails will be passable compared to the wet season when the trails are muddy and slippery making chimpanzee trekking difficult.
