Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Arrival and transfer to Murchison falls national park, upon arrival at Entebbe airport on day 1 of the 10 days Uganda Rwanda safari, you will be welcomed by our representative who will brief you about the safari and then start the journey to Murchison falls national park which is the largest national park in Uganda. The journey takes about 4 to 5 hours drive and on the way you will have a stopover at Ziwa rhino sanctuary for rhino tracking where after you will continue the journey to Masindi town for en-route lunch. After lunch you will proceed to the park and upon arrival you will drive directly to the top of the falls where you will have spectacular views of the waterfall, beautiful scenery among others. You will later drive to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Morning game drive and afternoon boat cruise to the bottom of the falls

Morning game drive, after an early breakfast on day 2 of the 10 days Uganda Rwanda safari your driver guide will pick you up from the lodge to go for a morning game drive in the park. during the game drive you will be rewarded with great views of the sunrise, animals like giraffes, waterbucks, lions, leopards, elephants, buffaloes, Jacksons hartebeest, Oribi, view different bird species among others. After the game drive you will drive back to the lodge for lunch.

Afternoon boat cruise, after lunch you will drive to Paraa jetty landing site for an interesting boat cruise to the bottom of the falls. during the boat cruise which takes about 2 hours you will have stunning views of hippos, crocodiles in water, elephants, buffaloes, antelopes along the shores, water birds like cormorants, kingfishers, fish eagles among others. After the boat ride you will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Transfer to Kibale national park

After breakfast on day 3 of the 10 days Uganda Rwanda safari, you will check out of lodge and meet up with your driver guide to start the journey to Kibale national park which is famously known as the primate capital because it harbors 13 primate species. It’s a whole day journey to Kibale national park and on the way you will have en-route lunch and scenic views of Rwenzori mountain ranges, crater lakes, tea plantations, traditional homesteads among others. Upon arrival you will continue to check into the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Chimpanzee trekking and transfer to Queen Elizabeth national park

Chimpanzee trekking, after an early breakfast on day 4 of the 10 days Uganda Rwanda safari you will check out of the lodge and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to the park headquarters for a briefing about the rules and regulations of chimpanzee trekking. After the briefing you will be allocated a chimpanzee family to trek and a park guide who is knowledgeable about trails in the forest. Trekking of chimpanzees in Kibale national park takes 30 minutes to 4 hours depending on where the chimpanzees slept the previous night, during trekking you will have great views of other primates like grey cheeked mangabey, blue monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys, vervet monkeys, birds, plants among others. Once the chimpanzees are found you will be allowed to spend one hour with them in their environment where you will watch them feed, breastfeed, hunt, fight, play, mate, rest, take photos and record videos with a flash less camera. After the one hour with the chimpanzees you will trek back to the park headquarters where you will meet up with your driver to transfer to Queen Elizabeth national park which is the second largest national park in Uganda. It’s a 3 hour drive journey and on the way you will have breathtaking views of tea plantations, beautiful scenery and en-route lunch in Fort Portal. After lunch you will proceed to Queen Elizabeth national park and upon arrival you will go for an evening game drive where you will have views of animals like buffaloes, warthogs, elephants, Uganda kobs, views of the sundowner among others. After the evening game drive you will drive to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Morning game drive/ lion tracking experience and boat cruise at Kazinga channel

Morning game drive, after an early breakfast on day 5 of the 10 days Uganda Rwanda safari your driver guide will pick you up from the lodge to go for a morning game drive or lion tracking experience in Kasenyi plains. During the game drive you will have great views of  buffaloes, elephants, warthogs, waterbucks, bushbucks, Uganda kobs among others grazing in open savannah plains with due, view predators like lions, leopards, hyenas looking for a morning hunt, view different bird species among others. After the game drive you will drive to the lodge for lunch.

Afternoon boat cruise, after lunch you will drive to the landing site near the luxury Mweya safari lodge for an amazing boat cruise on Kazinga channel a 40 kilometer long channel that joins lake Edward and lake George. During the scheduled boat ride you will be able to view large concentrations of hippos and Nile crocodiles in water, elephants, warthogs, buffaloes drinking water along the shores, view water birds like bee-eaters, kingfishers, fish eagles, hornbills, cormorants among others and see fishermen preparing their fishing gears for night fishing. After the boat ride you will drive back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 6: Transfer to Bwindi impenetrable national park

After breakfast on day 6 of the 10 days Uganda Rwanda safari, you will check out of the lodge and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to Bwindi impenetrable national park which is the most visited gorilla destination because it harbors half of the world mountain gorilla population. The journey takes about 3 to 4 hours drive with a stopover at Ishasha sector in the southern part of Queen Elizabeth national park. Ishasha sector is famously known for harboring the tree climbing lions which will be viewed lying down in acacia/fig tree branches during the game drive. After the game drive you will have en-route lunch and later continue to Bwindi impenetrable national park where you will check into the lodge for dinner and overnight upon arrival.

Day 7: Gorilla trekking in Bwindi impenetrable national park

Gorilla trekking, after an early breakfast on day 7 of the 10 days Uganda Rwanda safari you will carry packed lunch and your driver guide will pick you up from the lodge to transfer to the park headquarters for a gorilla trekking briefing. After the briefing you will be grouped into 8 people, allocated a gorilla family to trek and a park guide who is well conversant with trails in the jungle. Gorilla trekking takes about 30 minutes to 8 hours depending on where they are located because they like to move from one place to another in search of food. During trekking you will have stunning views of plant and tree species, bird species, other primates like chimpanzee, l’hoest monkeys among others. Once the mountain gorillas are found you will be allowed to spend one hour with them in their natural habitat where you will be able to take photos, observe their behaviors, watch them play, feed, breastfeed, record the breathtaking moments among others. After the face to face encounter with the gentle giants you will trek back to the park headquarters where you will be rewarded a gorilla trekking certificate for participating in gorilla trekking, meet up with your driver guide to transfer to the lodge for an evening relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 8: Transfer to Volcanoes national park– Ibyi’wacu cultural tour

On day 8 of the 10 days Uganda Rwanda safari you will have a relaxed breakfast, check out of the lodge and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to Volcanoes national park in north western part of Rwanda. The journey takes about 3 to 4 hours drive passing via Cyanika border in Kisoro or Katuna border in Kabale. Upon arrival in Volcanoes national park you will continue to check into the lodge for lunch and relaxation where after you will go for an evening Ibyi’wacu cultural tour. During the cultural tour you will be able to interact with the local people in the village which gives you a chance to know about their culture, way of living, tradition, history, taste their local food, visit their homesteads, farmlands, listen to their ancient stories, learn how to make local beer from bananas, enjoy their traditional entertainments among others. After the Ibyi’wacu cultural tour you will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 9: Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes national park

Gorilla trekking, after an early breakfast on day 9 of the 10 days Uganda Rwanda safari you will carry your lunch box and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to Kinigi park headquarters for a briefing about the rules, regulations and expectations of the second gorilla trekking experience. After the briefing you will be allocated a habituated gorilla family to trek and a park guide who is knowledgeable about the mountain gorillas and conversant with trails in the forest. Trekking of the mountain gorillas in Volcanoes national park takes about 30 minutes to 7 hours depending on their location and once they are found you will be allowed to spend one hour with them in their habitat where you will be able to observe their behaviors, habits, watch them carry out their daily activities like breastfeeding, feeding, playing, grooming each other, resting, take photos and record the breathtaking moments to show people back home after the safari. After the one hour encounter with the mountain gorillas you will trek back to the park headquarters where you will meet up with your driver guide to transfer back to the lodge for an evening relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 10: Departure to Kigali for a city tour

After a relaxed breakfast on day 10 of the 10 days Uganda Rwanda safari, you will check out of the lodge and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to Kigali for a city tour. During the city tour you will visit Kigali genocide memorial center where you will learn about the 1994 brutal killing of Hutus and Tutsi, visit the Kigali museum to know more about Rwanda’s history and culture, visit craft centers where you will buy souvenirs, Kimironko market where you will interact with local traders among others. After the Kigali city tour you will go for lunch in one of the restaurants and after transfer to Kigali international airport for you departure flight or transfer to any to a hotel in Kigali.
