4 Days Murchison Falls Tour is a short tour comprising of wildlife experiences and also chimpanzee trekking that will leave a traveler fascinated. Murchison falls national park is the largest and oldest park in Uganda and is located 305 kilometers north of Kampala capital city. Murchison falls national park is one of the most visited national parks in Uganda because of its various plant, animal and bird species. Murchison falls national park is a harbors various animal species such as 4 of the big 5 which include buffaloes, elephants, lions and leopards and other animal species like giraffes, waterbucks, warthogs, bushbucks, hippos, oribis, Jackson’s heartbeats and bird species such as the elusive shoebill stork, grey crowned crane, black-headed lapwing, ground hornbill, goliath heron, yellow-billed stork, secretary bird among others.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to Murchison Falls national park

Transfer to Murchison Falls: Depending on your location in Kampala, you will have breakfast in the morning and our driver-guide will pick you up from the lodge, give you a short briefing about your 4 days Murchison falls with chimpanzee trekking and then start the journey to Murchison falls national park.
Rhino Trekking: You will pass via Luwero district and look at plenty of fruits sold along the roadsides and continue to Ziwa Rhino sanctuary for Rhino trekking. Rhino trekking at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary takes about one to 2 hours and after you will proceed to Masindi town for lunch.
Drive to the top of the falls: After lunch you will proceed to Murchison falls and will have an evening drive on top of the falls and after the top of the falls drive, you will proceed to the lodge for dinner and overnight. Accommodation options in Murchison falls include Paraa safari lodge for luxury, Pakuba safari lodge for midrange or Red chili lodge for the budget.

Day 2: Game drive and boat cruise

Morning Game Drive: You will wake up early have breakfast at the lodge and your driver-guide will pick you up and go for the morning game drive which starts very early like at around 6:30am or 7am in the morning so as to view the early risers. During the game drive, you will be able to view various animal species such as elephants, buffaloes, lions, leopards, giraffes, waterbucks, bushbucks, oribi antelopes, Jackson’s hartebeest and some bird species such as the ground hornbills. After the game drive which ends at around 12pm, you will head back to the lodge for lunch and refreshment.
Boat Cruise: After lunch, you will meet with your driver-guide and will transfer you for the afternoon boat cruise on River Nile which starts at 2pm. During the boat cruise, the boat will continue to the bottom of the falls and you will be able to view various animal species on the river banks such as the Elephants, Buffaloes, Hippos, Nile crocodile, Antelopes among others and bird species such as the king fishers, herons, bee-eaters, cormorants, pelicans among others.
Top of the Falls Hike: After the boat cruise at the bottom of the falls, you can opt for hiking to the top of the falls which takes about 45 minutes to reach the top where you will find your driver-guide waiting for you. Top of the falls hiking is an adventurous and interesting activity but needs a traveler to be physically fit because it’s a steep hike. After hiking, your driver-guide will drive you back to the previous lodge for dinner and overnight

Day 3: Chimpanzee trekking in Budongo forest

Chimpanzee Trekking: You will wake up early have breakfast and with your packed lunch, the driver will pick you up from the lodge and transfer you to Budongo forest for chimpanzee trekking. The journey to Budongo forest takes about 30minutes to 1 hour and since you will have set off early, you will go for the morning chimpanzee trekking activity where you will first have a briefing and be grouped into 6 people at Budongo headquarters about the expectations and then start trekking in the forest with the park ranger.
Chimpanzee trekking is also unpredictable just like gorilla trekking hence can take about 2 to 5 hours depending on the location of the habituated chimpanzee family. Once the chimpanzee family has been found, you will spend one hour with the chimpanzee family in their natural habitat taking photos and learning about their behaviors and habits. After chimpanzee trekking, you will drive back to the lodge for the evening relaxation, dinner and overnight at the same lodge used the previous night.

Day 4: Transfer back to Kampala

Return to Kampala: You will wake up, have a relaxed breakfast and your driver will pick you up from the lodge and transfer to Kampala with a stopover in Masindi town for lunch. After lunch, you will proceed to Kampala city and the driver will drop you off at a place of convenience.
