Murchison falls National Park is located 305kilometres north of Kampala capital city and is known for being the oldest and largest national park in Uganda. Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to Murchison falls

  • Transfer to Murchison Falls: Depending on your location, our driver-guide will pick you up, give you a short briefing about your 4 Days Murchison Falls with Delta Boat Cruise tour and then start the journey which takes about 5-hour drive.
  • Rhino Trekking: On your way, you will pass via Luwero district, a place with various fruit types and then continue your journey to Ziwa Rhino sanctuary where you will be able to trek the rhinos in the sanctuary. The activity will take about 1 to 2 hours and Ziwa Rhino sanctuary is the only destination in Uganda that habits rhinos. 
  • Drive to the top of the Falls: After rhino trekking, you will proceed to Masindi town where you will have a stopover for lunch. After lunch, you will continue to Murchison falls and have an evening drive on top of the falls where you will view different animal species such as elephants, buffaloes, hippos, bird species among others.
  • Check-In: After the drive you will check-in at the lodge, have dinner and overnight.

Accommodation options include Paraa safari lodge (luxury), Pakuba safari lodge (midrange) or Red chilli lodge (budget).

 

Day 2: Morning game drive and afternoon Boat cruise

  • Game Drive: You will wake up very early, have breakfast and your driver-guide will pick you up for the morning game drive which starts at around 6:30am or 7:00am. During the game drive, you will be able to view various animals because Murchison Falls national park harbors different species of animals such as elephants, hippos, buffaloes, giraffes, lions, leopards, bushbucks, waterbucks and some bird species such as majestic grey crowned crane, spur-winged lapwing, marabou stork, bustard, ground hornbill, secretary bird among others. 
  • Boat Cruise: After the game drive which takes about 4 to 5 hours, you will drive back to the lodge for lunch. After lunch the driver will pick you up for the afternoon game drive which starts at 2pm. Boat cruise on Murchison falls national park gives you a great experience in that the boat will take you to the bottom of the falls and you will have great views of the animals on the river banks such as elephants, antelopes, buffaloes, hippos among others and some waterbird species such as Papyrus Gonolek, king fishers, flamingos, fish eagles among others.
  • Hike to the top of the Falls: After the boat cruise at the bottom of the falls, you can either opt to return back to the starting point or hike to the top of the falls. Hiking to the top of the falls is an adventurous activity but steep and therefore needs someone to be physically fit. After hiking to the top of the falls, you will find your driver guide waiting for you on top and then you will drive to the lodge for dinner and overnight at the lodge that was used the previous night.

Day 3: Nile Delta Boat Cruise

  • Nile delta boat cruise: You will wake up have breakfast and your driver guide will pick you up for the Nile delta boat cruise which starts at 9:00am. The Nile Delta is a peaceful stretch where the River Nile flows into Lake Albert. During the Nile Delta boat cruise you will have an opportunity to view large numbers of hippos and Nile crocodiles and various bird species such as the pre-historic shoebill stork, African skimmer, malachite kingfisher, pied kingfisher, African jacana, goliath heron and experience people fetching water from the Nile and the fishermen fishing on Lake Albert hence you can also engage in sport fishing at an extra cost in case you are interested. 
  • Community Tour: After the Nile delta boat cruise, you will go to the lodge for lunch and refreshment. After lunch the driver will pick you up and drive to the local communities around Murchison falls national park where you will interact with the local people such as Boomu women’s group or Mubako community and learn about their ways of life, get entertained through traditional dances, songs and after the cultural tour, you will head back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Transfer back to Kampala

  • Return to Kampala: You will wake up, have a relaxed breakfast and the driver will pick you up from the lodge and you will have a short morning game drive in the park and later drive out of the park start your journey to Kampala with a stopover in Masindi town for lunch. After lunch, you will proceed with the journey to Kampala and reach there early evening. Your driver-guide will then drop you off either at Entebbe International airport in case you have an evening flight to catch or at any place of your choice.
